Percussion Show (Egypt)
In 2007, in Egypt, and at the spur of a collective musical moment, seven of Egypt’s most talented and renowned percussionists shared a groundbreaking idea
that was meant to shake Egypt’s music scene and introduce a new, yet recognizable formation.
The idea was to take over a stage, in LIVE performances, playing pulsating beats, on different kinds of percussions - creating direct dynamic interaction with the audience through the sounds of harmoniously frenzied and well calculated beats.
One of their latest remarkable performances was during the third Cairo Jazz Festival in March 2011 when they got on stage for an hour and a half for a live jamming session with Sjahin During from Holland, Cristobal Salazar from Spain, and Eldys Vega from Cuba. The audience was mesmerized by the incredible energy that kept each one of them moving in their seats while others took over the limited free spaces to move their bodies to the stress-relieving rhythms.
January 2011 marked one of The Percussion Show’s milestones when the Culture Resource announced them as one of the winners of the 2010 Theater Production Grant from amongst 160 applicants from across the Middle East.
The Percussion Show was officially introduced to Egypt’s growing music scene with the familiar faces and talents of its every member who separately plays in other renowned bands. They engage with the crowd in every gig they have; full house attendance at every show, with a nascent fan base every time and in every venue.
